| Liturgical Ministries Altar Servers Boys and girls, fourth grade through high school, who assist the priests and other ministers at the weekend celebrations of the Eucharist and at other liturgical functions throughout the year. New servers are guided through a period of training (usually beginning in September) to ready them for this privileged role in the parish’s worship life. Adult Altar Servers Assist at the weekday Masses during the year, much as the young servers do on Saturday evening and Sunday. The Choir An adult ensemble of singers and instrumentalists who provide a rich experience of liturgical music at the 10:30 A.M. Mass each Sunday and at the major liturgical events of the Church year. Rehearsals take place weekly on Thursday evenings. Eucharistic Ministers Ministers enjoy the unique privilege of assisting in the distribution of Communion at parish liturgies. Training for all who are new to this important ministry is provided by the Diocese of Rockville Centre, and is supplemented by our parish. Many Eucharistic ministers also are involved in bringing the Body of Christ to the sick, the elderly, the homebound, and the residents of Belair Care Center. Open to men and women, 16 years of age and older. The Family Liturgy Music Ministry An integral part of the weekly Family Mass at 10:15 A.M. in the Holy Family Chapel, and includes both adults and children who lead the community in spirited, contemporary music. Weekly rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings. The Family Liturgy Committee Meets monthly from September through June to do creative planning for the various liturgical seasons and major celebrations at the 10:15 A.M. Family Mass. Junior Lectors Children and teenagers who proclaim the Scripture readings at the 10:15 Mass. Lectors Have the responsibility of proclaiming the Scripture readings during the Liturgy of the Word at parish celebrations of the Eucharist. Men and women of high school age and older who accept this ministry must be capable of effective public communication, and are offered a diocesan-sponsored training program before they begin. Ministers of Hospitality (“Ushers”) Instrumental in creating an atmosphere of warmth and welcome for those arriving to share in the Eucharist each weekend. These men and women greet our parishioners as they enter the church, help in seating the congregation, take up the collection, and distribute the parish bulletin at the end of Mass. |
