Dear Friends of Outreach & St. Vincent de Paul
The poor among us, whom Jesus has said will always be here, are really a reminder of our own need, each for the other, no matter what wealth we may have. Sharing our lives with each other, however we can, is truly the only choice we’ve got. From the very beginning, that was The Plan! Thanksgiving and Christmas this year were made a whole lot brighter for many of our needy neighbors in the Bellmore area by your generous donations of food and gifts. Because of them and countless other kindnesses extended, we were able to provide Thanksgiving Baskets for some 280 people in 70 families, and Christmas Baskets with Gifts for an additional 75 families of almost 300 people. No words can ever describe how much it meant to them. May the New Year be as much of a blessing on you as you have been on those who need you during these Holy Days. With deep gratitude - Margaret Pariseau for Outreach and Cathy Onufrey for St. Vincent de Paul.

December 26, 2004

My dear friends,

Were you surprised to wake up on this the morning after Christmas to realize that you were to come to Church once again to continue the celebration of Christmas and invited to join together and celebrate the feast of the Holy Family. For some of you the thought may come to your mind that you’ve had just about enough of family and don’t need to be reminded that yours is not the holiest.

Christmas can be a challenging time for all of us when it comes to socializing with family and friends. For the caretakers in our midst, these days of celebration mean a great deal of preparation and work. For the shy among us, the days of Christmas can be draining as your much needed quiet is stolen by the presence of too many people. For those with young children, their young ones can be on overload – induced by all the sweets and all the gifts that are part of the celebration. For some these days are lonely experiences filled only with memories of Christmas past. But for all they still are part of our Christmas experience.

Today, realizing as we do that Christmas is a season and not just a single day, we also are reminded that we are part of a parish family. The warmth and welcome of so many others into our lives in the parish is truly a blessing. Today as we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family, let us also take the time to thank God for our parish family – a family that prays together, serves one another and finds the God of Love made flesh in the lives of its members.

Our wonderful parish family inspires all of us who find a home at St. Barnabas. Together with all the members of the staff, I thank you today for being the wonderful and faith-filled people you are. You inspire us in unimaginable ways. Thank you for being such a wonderful family to each of us.

This coming weekend we will celebrate the end of another year and the beginning of the year of the Lord 2005. For all that has been, let us give thanks and for all that will be let us ask the Lord’s blessing.

A Happy and Healthy New Year to All!

Love and Prayers,

-Father Peter
