The Way That Leads to Peace
The Christian Life and Reality of Sin
Monday, November 15th - 7:30 PM - Church
Rev. Charles Caccavale, Professor of Morality
Seminary of the Immaculate Conception - Huntington
The Christian life is one that seeks to model itself on the person of Jesus Christ. It is a life of growth and grace, but it is also a life that struggles to overcome the reality of sin. This presentation will address the Catholic understanding of the moral life, the reality of sin, the work of moral conscience, and the role of the sacrament of Reconciliation in the life of Catholics.
What’s Up, Up There?
Last week on the windiest day of the year a gentleman climbed to the top of the bell tower, tied himself to the cross and repainted it. You wouldn’t believe the sight. We were blowing away on the ground and here he was on the bell tower. The cross shines brightly with its new coat of gold. Stranger things than this don’t happen in Bellmore too often.
Prayer for Peace
On Monday evening, November 29th at 7:30 PM, we will gather for an evening of prayer for peace in our world. The war in Iraq has continued and the efforts of the peace-keepers continue to be frustrated. Our military who seek to support the peace continue to be far from their families and friends and their loved ones continue to live in fear for their safety. And so we seek to come together in prayer for an end to war and terrorism and for peace in all lands and among all people. Father Paul Hurley, a Major in the US Army, one of the chaplains at the Military Academy at West Point and a graduate of West Point itself will preside and preach at the service. Let us come together on this evening to pray for peace.

Thanksgiving Baskets for the Needy
Thanksgiving is a very special time for each of us, as we celebrate and give thanks to God for family, friends and the many blessing we share. Still, there are those among us who will need our help to make their own Thanksgiving a happy one. Saint Barnabas, we know, has a rich, and generous tradition of sharing its blessings with those in need by providing Food Baskets at Thanksgiving. So, this year again, we invite you to consider donating one or two of the following items;
Turkey coupon/gift certificate or $$$ (instead of the turkey...our freezer space is gone.)
Canned yams/sweet potatoes, vegetables & cranberry sauce
Stuffing mix
Juice & cider
A tin of cookies
Pancake mix & syrup
Coffee & tea
Please do not bring perishable items, as there is not refrigerator space available. Baskets will be distributed on Friday, November 19th. Kindly plan to bring your gifts to the church or rectory by Monday, November 15th, so we will have enough time to sort and pack them. Thank you so much. May God Bless your generosity, and give you the best Thanksgiving Day ever!
