What’s Up, Up There?
Quiet week on the roof….work just keeps on going! You’ll laugh at this though. You may have noticed that around the top of the bell tower there has been black soot since our fire of ten years ago. We were never able to remove the soot since we could not get to the area. Well since they’re up there we thought it would be a great time to clean off the black stains. Numerous “special products” were tested to see what would take the soot off. Nothing worked! So someone – I’m not sure who – suggested soap and water and a steel brush and low and behold it worked. So the soot will be removed in the near future in the old fashioned way with a little elbow grease.
Bread & Wine
The bread & wine for this week is in loving memory of Harrison Nicolls on his 5th Anniversary from his family.
Second Collection
The second collection this week is for the repair of the Church roof.

The Sign of Peace
Last week a number of bishops made news saying that the sign of peace and reception of the precious blood would be suspended in their dioceses until after the flu season. Needless to say this has nourished a host of inquiries. Let me make this suggestion – if you have the flu or a bad cold use your common sense and don’t share it with others by shaking hands or drinking from the Eucharistic cup. The important phrase here is “use your common sense.” The gift of greeting one another during the Eucharist and of sharing in the Eucharist in the fuller sense by drinking from the cup are gifts that we have in the Church and gifts we would never want to loose. So please just “use your common sense.”

Leaves, Leaves, Leaves
Now that autumn is upon us many of us are busily raking the leaves that fall from all the beautiful trees we have on Long Island. For some of us raking is no longer something we are easily able to do. And so with the usual St. Barnabas generosity, Brownie Troop 949 is willing to rake some leaves for elderly parishioners who might need help at this time of the year. Please call the Outreach office at 785-6243 if you are in need of their services.

Refreshments will be served. Please bring any leftover Halloween candy and all chance books, sold and unsold to the meeting.

Thanksgiving Baskets for the Needy
Thanksgiving is a very special time for each of us, as we celebrate and give thanks to God for family, friends and the many blessing we share. Still, there are those among us who will need our help to make their own Thanksgiving a happy one. Saint Barnabas, we know, has a rich, and generous tradition of sharing its blessings with those in need by providing Food Baskets at Thanksgiving. So, this year again, we invite you to consider donating one or two of the following items;
Turkey coupon/gift certificate or $$$ (instead of the turkey...our freezer space is gone.)
Canned yams/sweet potatoes, vegetables & cranberry sauce
Stuffing mix
Juice & cider
A tin of cookies
Pancake mix & syrup
Coffee & tea
Please do not bring perishable items, as there is not refrigerator space available. Baskets will be distributed on Friday, November 19th. Kindly plan to bring your gifts to the church or rectory by Monday, November 15th, so we will have enough time to sort and pack them. Thank you so much. May God Bless your generosity, and give you the best Thanksgiving Day ever!
