What’s Up, Up There?
It looks like overall we are more than 80% done with the roof project. Thanks be to God. The usual last minute problems are materializing like what sealant will be used on the windows. What remaining masonry work needs to be addressed? Are the new gutters all the good water catchers they are supposed to be? (We’ve had enough rain to determine this.) And so, the work goes on and I’m more than grateful that the problems have been few.

Election Day Effort
Knowing that every vote counts in this election, the Bellmore Knights of Columbus has volunteered to provide transportation to anyone needing it to their polling place on Election Day, November 2nd. We will have arts & crafts, face painting, games and a costume parade. Cost: Adults - $7.50; Seniors - $6.50; Children - $5.00 (12 & under). Family Max - $25 for two adults and minor children. October 24, 2004

My dear friends,

If you want to be a little crazy – guess what? On Monday we will be only two months away from Christmas morning. Got your shopping done yet?

More than a few will say as they read that opening paragraph – I’m going to kill Father Peter for reminding me. It frightens me as much as it does you. My real hope is that we don’t have to wrap the scaffolding in Christmas garland. But the reason I bring this Christmas nearness up is that most of us find little time for the really important things in life and most things are part of our daily rush and not the result of long-time planning or even extended reflection.

Last weekend I spent a few minutes of my homily mentioning how little time we seem to have for the important things in life. A good number of people commented on this idea as they left the Church. As a parish we try to reach out to the busy people we call parishioners and invite them into the more contemplative moments of life. We do this each time we pray; we also do it each time we celebrate the Eucharist together; and we do it when we leave time aside for something like a day of recollection.

This week you’ll find advertised in this bulletin the upcoming day of recollection that will be presented by Father Gil at St. Ignatius Retreat House. (Needless to say he has already finished preparing for the day.) Traveling the short distance between here and St. Ignatius to be with Father Gil will draw you into a wonderful time of recollection and rejuvenation. Give some thought to joining us. You’ll enjoy it more than you ever thought.

And in the meantime, don’t forget to get that Christmas shopping started.

God Love You,
-Father Peter
