What’s Up, Up There?
Most of you have seen the tiles from afar but now you can see some of them on the lower side roofs of the Church. I smile when I think that we looked at many tiles of varying colors and picked four distinct colors for the roof. Perhaps you have better eyes than I but aside from the ones that have a purple tone; the green ones all look very much the same. But...they are different.

October 17, 2004

My dear friends,

In case you didn’t know it, your pastor finds it very difficult not to wander away from the parish during the fall season. Nothing to me is more beautiful that the glorious foliage that bedecks our trees during this time of the year. Exploring the New England States and upstate New York would be my idea of a good time.

While this passion goes back many years, there was one time in my life when I was living in Cambridge, Massachussets during the fall. In minutes one could escape to the country roads and become entranced by the phenomenal floral display the Lord prepared for us. Actually one of my favorite places to wander among the trees was at a nearby cemetery that had hundreds of specimen trees, whose colors were rich and deep. While wandering along the pathways and passages, one couldn’t help but admire God’s handiwork.

At the present time I’m still a prisoner of the rectory and haven’t escaped to explore the northern climbs but have settled for the changing foliage of the Island and am waiting for the unveiling of the colors along Southern and Northern Parkways. May I see you on the parkway.

Several people have explained to me that I wouldn’t like the fall as much if I had to rake all the leaves that they clear from their property. That’s probably true but it hasn’t dissuaded me from rejoicing in this season.

The months have been flying by and before we know it, the holidays will be with us. Steal a few moments today or tomorrow and just admire the wonder of God’s artistic gift to us of fall leaves and don’t allow the season to escape you.

God Love You,

-Father Peter
