Volunteer Meetings
Thanks so much for all who have completed the volunteer forms. It has come to our attention that some folks thought they didn’t have to complete the forms because they were “just” a cake baker, meals on wheels driver, or a small Christian Community facilitator. Every volunteer is important AND every volunteer must complete the forms. And so, ALL volunteers who have not yet completed the forms are invited to attend one of the following meetings in the Holy Family Chapel:
Tuesday, October 12th - 11:00 AM
Wednesday, October 13th - 10:00 AM
Wednesday, October 13th - 6:30 PM
Thanks again for all your cooperation. We really appreciate it.

What’s Up, Up There?
The work continues - not much is happening but lots of slates are being laid. The construction company has informed us (by sending a bill) that the slates are all now on the property. It is my hope that within a month (let us pray to the Lord) they will begin taking down the scaffolding.

Dear Friends at St. Barnabas,
Hello to all of you! I hope you're enjoying the first hints of autumn, and that the time since I might have seen you last has been full of good things.
In recent weeks or months, many of you may have heard that I've been on leave from parish work at St. Joseph's in Garden City. Father Peter has been conveying your concern for me, and your hopes that all is well. I'm so very grateful for your thoughtfulness and support, even without knowing just what is going on in my life. The truth is that since the beginning of the summer, I've been participating in a recovery program for alcohol dependency. I'm writing to you now from an extraordinary facility in Rochester, Minnesota, called Guest House, which is designed specifically for the treatment of priests, deacons, and religious brothers. The program is lengthy, but solid and thorough, and I feel blessed for having the opportunity to come here at this juncture in my life's journey. Of course, coming to terms with an illness like alcoholism has been hard, and the months of separation from family, friends, and parish have sometimes been a lonely, fretful experience. But I am in capable, caring hands, and have been treated from the start with the utmost respect and kindness.
What you may have heard in terms of my neurological difficulties (essential tremor) is also true, though my appointments at the nearby Mayo Clinic have not resulted in any major change. I am happy, though, that my time at Guest House is drawing to a close, and I will hopefully be returning home soon. Until I see you again, I certainly want to ask for your prayers, and I promise to keep you in mine. I hope you know how much my years with you meant to me, and continue to sustain my hope and confidence about the future.
With fond regards,
Father Brian
