Boy Scout Thank You
Boy Scout Troop 580 and Cub Scout Pack 580 of St. Barnabas wishes to thank the Bellmore Knights of Columbus and all the parishioners of St. Barnabas for their generous support of our recent car wash. Its success helps fund our scouting programs this year.

What’s Up, Up There?
Well…the rains came on Monday and Tuesday and there was a leak in the Church – same leak we’ve had for years when it has rained heavily. So….the crew is now looking for the source so that when the roof is closed it will all be watertight. One of the recent works of the crew was the power-washing of the front of the Church. If you take a look at the statue of St. Barnabas high above our doors or the Papal and Episcopal Shields that are above each of the main doors you will notice how clean they look. All this adds up to a more beautiful St. Barnabas Church.

Second Collection
The second collection this week is a special Respect Life Collection.

Please Pray for the Repose of the Souls of the Recently Deceased

October 3, 2004

My dear friends,

As a parish family we have been conforming to the Diocesan directives concerning the registration of all parish volunteers. As I mentioned in past letters this registration includes a “criminal background search” for each volunteer which involves the sharing of your social security number with us. During the past several months hundreds of parishioners have completed these forms. On behalf of all the parish staff I want to thank you for the time you took to abide by this latest effort of the Diocese and the parish to protect all of God’s people, especially our children.

Some parishioners have indicated that they cannot abide by this request and do not wish to share with us their social security number despite the fact we can assure you that it will be kept confidential. Your staff fully understands this. We will not be able however to allow those who do not fulfill this request to volunteer for a parish activity. This of course is a very sad thing since some long standing volunteers have indicated they are unable to complete the required paperwork.

In order to move forward with this program, I’d ask those who have not completed the paperwork (which includes the listing of the social security number for the criminal background check) to please reconsider their decision and join with the hundreds of volunteers in the parish who have already joined in this registration program. If you have not completed the paperwork and now are willing to do so, please contact either the moderator of the activity to which you belong or myself.

At the present time, the Diocese of Rockville Centre is underwriting the cost of these registrations. After Christmas the cost of these “criminal background checks” will fall to the parishes at a rate of approximately $75 per person. For this reason your quick response is most appreciated.

If your have questions about the volunteer registration forms, please feel free to speak with any of the members of the pastoral staff.

God Love You,

-Father Peter
