What’s Up, Up There?
It was quite a view from up there. Yes I mounted the scaffolding to see what was going on. Bellmore looks different from above the trees. Standing at the roof line you see little as you look south except tree tops. Unfortunately I didn’t see the water, the day was probably just not clear enough. Aside from the view the work seems to be progressing. After the heavy rain on Monday night we had a leak in the Church, which is not surprising given the fact that a great deal of protection is still missing. The company was interested in tracing it so that future problems would be avoided. –Fr. Peter

Altar Flowers
The flowers on the Blessed Mother’s Altar are to celebrate the birth of our granddaughter Emily Grace from Ellen and Tom Grimes.

RCIA is intended for adults in any of three categories: (1) those who have never been baptized; (2) those who are already baptized Christians of another denomination; and (3) baptized Catholics who have never had the opportunity to receive the Eucharist and Confirmation. A Letter from the Pastor - July 18, 2004

My dear friends,

One of the gifts we share as a parish is the wonderful talent of those who assist at our Liturgical celebrations. Numerous parishioners provide services without which the liturgy would not be celebrated with the same beauty and reverence. Think of the numerous Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Lectors, Altar Servers, Ushers, and Sacristans. Week in and week out they serve the needs of all. Today I thank each and every one of them for their ministries. They are indeed a gift to all of us.

Two other groups also spend a great deal of time in their ministry and they are the St. Barnabas Choir and the Family Mass Music Ministry Group. Both these choirs enhance the beauty of the liturgies with their singing and through the playing of instruments. Each week we arrive for Sunday Mass and find the music well prepared and beautifully shared. We cannot take for granted the numerous hours of practice and preparation that go into their weekly preparation. Our choir takes some needed time off during the summer and the Family Mass group will be taking a Sabbath rest for the month of August. Today I thank each and every member of these choirs for all they do for the parish.

As I thank the parishioners who serve in these multiple ministries, I also thank all the members of the parish staff who work creatively and with quiet dedication in serving the needs of all of us. If you have a moment during the weeks of summer to thank them personally, please do so.

God Love You,
-Father Peter

Seashore Solace

A visit to the seashore
Will soothe a heart in need
And make small cares and troubles
Seem minute grains indeed.

Inhale the bracing sea breeze
And stroll on sun-kissed sand,
Peer out at fishing vessels -
Small specks so far from land.

Attend to great waves crashing
Upon receding shore
And marvel at huge conch shells
Flung down with mighty roar.

Join eager, sandy children
At architectural play,
Constructing moats and castles
High tide attacks each day.

Ascend the wind-tossed sand dunes
Where feathered sea oats grow,
Observe the Sunset Artist
On ocean spread orange glow.

You’ll feel at one with heaven,
A part of sand and sea.
The rhythm of the ocean
Pulsates eternity!
