What Up, Up There?
Last weekend I suggested that you stand near Bartholomew’s parking lot to take look at the work on the Church. This week the final layout of slates was approved and so it shouldn’t be long before you can look and see the actual slates being laid in place. So far we have been lucky and have not uncovered any additional problems, which also means there haven’t been any new expenses. The one additional expense that has been added to the job was the refurbishing of the metal cross that sits atop the bell tower. Needless to say this hasn’t been given much attention since 1958 when it was placed there. Those with a “bird’s eye view” say it is in pretty bad shape – lots of rust, etc. So it should shine brightly when the roof is finished.

Father Edward Beck
Many of you will remember Father Edward L. Beck, C.P. (Passionist priest) from the mission/retreat he gave in our parish some time ago. Many purchased his first book, God Underneath, at that time. This month his second book, Unlikely Ways Home: Real-Life Spiritual Detours will be published. It is a collection of 12 stories of peoples’ journey back to God and faith. All of Father Beck’s proceeds from the book will go to help support the ministry of the Passionists. The book is now available on-line at Amazon.com HERE or wherever books are sold.

If you, or someone you know might be interested in pursuing full membership in the Church, now is the time to contact us. RCIA is intended for adults in any of three categories: (1) those who have never been baptized; (2) those who are already baptized Christians of another denomination; and (3) baptized Catholics who have never had the opportunity to receive the Eucharist and Confirmation. If interested, please leave a message at the rectory for Terry Hubert.

A Letter from the Pastor - July 11, 2004

My dear friends,

Our bulletin mentioned that Fr. Lawrence and Fr. Martin were arriving to spend some time with us during the summer. Father Lawrence arrived safe and sound on Tuesday morning. Please welcome him. Sadly Father Martin’s mother died on Monday, July 5th and that will certainly delay his coming to the States. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Kathleen Noone and keep Father Martin and his family in your prayers.

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + +

Over the past several weeks many of our volunteers have shared in meetings that register them as volunteers in the parish. Needless to say this is a very large undertaking for the parish staff. Registering each volunteer and asking them to sign the “release form” that allows us to check on any criminal background certainly is challenging and perhaps for some revealing.

Those who have participated in these registration sessions have been most cooperative and have completed the forms willingly. Please be assured that the parish will do all in its power to avoid any embarrassment to our parishioners. Should any parishioner have something to worry about in submitting a release form for criminal activity, they can certainly contact me personally to discuss this form. The last thing any of us on the staff want to do is cause anyone upset. The cooperation of all is most appreciated.

As we enter into these summer months hopefully everyone will find the longer days, the shinning sun and the balmy breezes refreshing to the soul and to their bodies.

God Love You,
-Father Peter
