Food Pantry Weekend
July 10th & 11th
Important Notice - Because of the July 4th holiday, our July Food Pantry Collection will take place on the 2nd weekend of the month - July 10th & 11th. Please wait until then, as our volunteer haulers and shelvers will be away for the holiday weekend, so there will be no one to transport the food.
We have more than enough pasta and sauce, but this month, we are in need of juices, tea, evaporated milk, cereals, cookies & crackers, rice-a-roni, cooking oil, dish & laundry detergents, personal care items (toothpaste & shampoo) & paper goods (paper towel & napkins). Please leave your pantry donations on the lobby benches in church. We are also happy to accept them at the rectory during the week. Kindly do not leave outdated or perishable foods, clothing items and other non-pantry goods, as we really can’t distribute or store them. The Ten-Minute Club also meets on Pantry Sunday. If you signed up for either the 9:00 AM, 10:15 AM, 10:30 AM or 12:00 PM Masses, we’ll need you to take this month’s food donations over to the rectory basement. Please meet our Saint Vincent de Paul Society members in the church lobby after Mass. Your generous support of our Pantry, as always, is deeply appreciated. Thank you so much.

What Up, Up There?
If you stand north of the Church maybe up by the library or near Bartholomew’s parking lot you will notice that a good bit of the roof is clear of the tiles. Work has begun on the removal of the tiles and the placing of the materials that are installed beneath the tiles. To date we haven’t found any surprises thanks be to God! A number of people have asked a few questions that might be on the mind of some others. People have asked about the old tiles and what is being done with them. The old tiles are very fragile most break into pieces as they are removed. Early on the contractor hoped to rescue these tiles but that did not work out, they were entirely too breakable to conserve. Others have asked why we are putting on a slate roof on the Church rather than a less expensive imitation. Honestly the slate is more expensive than many alternatives, but the difference was $30,000 for the entire roof and it was recommended that we spend the additional $30,000 since the slate will last about twice as long as any alternatives. And so we will have a slate roof. The pastor in 2070 will probably be grateful as he won’t need to replace the roof. Most of us, except perhaps our youngest members will be enjoying the heavenly choirs of angels at that time.

A Letter from the Pastor - July 4, 2004
My dear friends,
This weekend we celebrate the Fourth of July rejoicing in our independence as a nation of people gathered together as “one nation, under God” from throughout the world. As a nation we are so aware of who we are and the power we have as a country at this time in our history. Our strength is highlighted by the respect accorded us by nations throughout the world. Just the other day our government orchestrated the re-formation of the government of Iraq and hopefully initiated a period of peace in that country.
Most of us however are aware of the need for peace in our world. We have heard of the death of so many people during the war in Iraq, we have watched with horror additional acts of terrorism and barbarism, and we have shared in the sadness of watching the caskets of our soldiers being returned to their homeland and to their families.
But peace must still come to our world. So much needs to be done to see that people treat others with dignity, that humanity not sink into acts of aggression against one another. We know this in the deepest recesses of our hearts but we find ourselves and others acting in violent ways. And so we are called to pray for peace and do all we can to create a place of peace in our homes, our towns and hopefully well beyond the boarders of our town.
As we celebrate the Fourth of July and our national independence, let us redouble our prayer that peace would come to our world, that terrorism would be far from the hearts of all people and that humanity would flourish as God created it to be.
Happy Fourth of July!
God Love You,
-Father Peter
