Monsignor Charles Guarino
Father Charles in celebrating the noon mass on Sunday will be concluding his ministry here at St. Barnabas. As was mentioned in earlier bulletins, he will be moving to Rome to assist as a canon lawyer in working on the cases that have arisen due to the many cases of sexual abuse that have surfaced throughout the world. Father Charles has been working in our diocese for many months now on the local cases and brings his experience and understanding to his ministry in Rome. Today we thank him for his service among us. During the past three years many of you have come to enjoy his homiletic style and will certainly miss him. His daily work included his role as the Promoter of Justice for the diocese and also his involvement with couples seeking marriage annulments. The diocese will certainly miss his service. As we wish him bon voyage, we hope that he will always consider St. Barnabas his home and feel welcome to share in the life of the parish on his visits from the Holy City. His Roman address is:

Casa Santa Maria
Via dell’Umilta, 30
00187 Rome, Italy

If mail comes to St. Barnabas we will certainly see to it that he gets it.

Food Pantry Weekend
July 10th & 11th
Important Notice - Because of the July 4th holiday, our July Food Pantry Collection will take place on the 2nd weekend of the month - July 10th & 11th. Please wait until then, as our volunteer haulers and shelvers will be away for the holiday weekend, so there will be no one to transport the food.

We have more than enough pasta and sauce, but this month, we are in need of juices, tea, evaporated milk, cereals, cookies & crackers, rice-a-roni, cooking oil, dish & laundry detergents, personal care items (toothpaste & shampoo) & paper goods (paper towel & napkins). Please leave your pantry donations on the lobby benches in church. We are also happy to accept them at the rectory during the week. Kindly do not leave outdated or perishable foods, clothing items and other non-pantry goods, as we really can’t distribute or store them. The Ten-Minute Club also meets on Pantry Sunday. If you signed up for either the 9:00 AM, 10:15 AM, 10:30 AM or 12:00 PM Masses, we’ll need you to take this month’s food donations over to the rectory basement. Please meet our Saint Vincent de Paul Society members in the church lobby after Mass. Your generous support of our Pantry, as always, is deeply appreciated. Thank you so much.

Golf Outing
Mark you calendars now for our Annual Golf Outing at Lido Beach Golf Club on Thursday, October 7th. Details to follow in future bulletins.

Congratulations to the Class of 2004
Congratulations to the 56 eighth grade graduates of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School. Next to the name of each graduate is the name of the high school they will be attending. God bless them and bring peace and success in all future endeavors.

What Up, Up There?
Masonry work continues around the Church. You can especially notice this in the rear of the Church. Thankfully the replacement bricks are very similar to the current color of the Church bricks and with time these patches will blend well with the existing structure. Thank you for your continued support of our “roof fund,” every penny is helpful.

A Letter from the Pastor - June 27, 2004

My dear friends,

Tuesday the 29th of June is a special day in my life; it marks the 10th Anniversary of my arrival at St. Barnabas Parish to serve as the ninth pastor. The years have certainly flown by, at least for me. Like so many anniversaries, I cannot help but look back at the years and reflect on the blessings and the trials that have shaped those years. While many might find the trials more interesting, I find that putting down the burdens and leaving them behind healthier than always reviewing them and digging into them over and over again.

The blessings however have been many. My chief blessing is the wonderful parishioners who share their lives with me and the other members of the staff day in and day out. You are wonderful people. Your support, your care, your love and your goodness make the work of being a pastor much easier. And today I thank you.

Working with wonderful people on the parish staff has also been a blessing. First of all my days here have been deeply touched by the presence of my two predecessors, Msgr. Daniel Potterton and Fr. Edward Muhs. These fine gentlemen both cared for and guided me through the early days of my pastoring. One continues to guide me from heaven, the other humors me through each day and assuring me that I work too hard for twenty-six cents an hour. The priests with whom I have shared life in the rectory and the staff members who have worked so diligently and caringly alongside me have graced my days and made the difficult much more accessible. And today I thank them.

One great gift we possess as a parish is the number of people who share their life with others by volunteering their time and talent in the service of God’s people. I could never accomplish the work of shepherding this parish without the wonderful people whose love is poured out in service. And today I thank you.

Milestones lead us to thank God and others but they also call us to ask the Lord’s blessing on the days to come. It is my hope that in sharing your faith life, I have brought you closer to God. I can assure you that you have brought me closer to the Lord of Love whom I encounter each time we are together. As I ask God’s continued blessing on my ministry, I ask him to bless you with a sense of his presence and the assurance of his love. In these difficult days in the Church, we need the support of one another. Please keep me in your prayers as I do you.

For all that has been, I give thanks!
For all that will be, I ask God’s Blessing!

God Love You,
-Father Peter
