Anointing of the Sick
The Sacrament of the Sick will be celebrated on Saturday, June 26th, after the 8:00 AM Mass. The anointing of the sick is a sacrament that strengthens those who are ill, facing surgery, those who are disabled and those in special need of God’s healing touch due to chronic physical difficulties. Those wishing to receive the sacrament should sit in the front rows of the church.

EMs, Lectors and Altar Servers
Please pick up your July and August schedules in the Altar Servers Sacristy after Mass today.

Rosary Society
Once again our Rosary Society has presented me with a check representing all their fund raising efforts for the past year. This year the check was for an unbelievable $12,500. This certainly represents a great deal of hard work on the part of the women in this Society. While we appreciate their efforts, they also want to thank all those who support their various programs throughout the year. With the large expense of the roof replacement this donation will certainly help the parish to keep a balanced budget. As a parish we join in thanking these ladies for their wonderful support.

What Up, Up There?
Our roof project continues with the masonry work that is part of our project. If you look closely around the building there are various cracks in the brick work. In order to make the Church water tight these are being repaired. There is also repair work around each of the stained glass windows that is planned. The actual slates for the roof have not yet arrived. I did have the privilege of paying the first of the big bills for the project this week which amount to a little more than $86,000 (ugh). Our roof collection last week provided another $12,000 to our “roof fund.”

Second Collection
The second collection next week is for Peter’s Pence for the support of the Holy Father and the Vatican.

A Letter from the Pastor - June 20, 2004

My dear friends,

This Wednesday our Regional School will once again bring an academic year to a conclusion. The year has been filled with many wonderful memories and experiences for the children. Those visiting the school so often comment on the wonderful enthusiasm of the children and their obvious happiness as students of the school. This is certainly my impression. They love the school and they love the teachers who share with them so much of themselves daily in the classroom.

As the year comes to a conclusion, our founding principal will also be laying down the school bell with which she begins each day and entering into a sabbatical year. Dr. Eileen Kilbride, along with Sr. William Noreen, were the Founding Principals of the school twelve years ago. As we say “good-bye and God’s Blessing” to Dr. Kilbride we cannot help but think of the many years of leadership and service that she provided to the school. During her tenure numerous challenges were embraced, our school became a stronger academic institution and the gifts of Catholic Education flourished. This does not happen by accident, it is only with the love and dedication of a dedicated administration and a faith-filled faculty that real growth comes about. As a parish we are most grateful to Dr. Eileen Kilbride for all that she did to create and cultivate the wonderful school to which we send our children. Quoting a prayer that Dr. Kilbride prays often with the students, we beseech God’s blessing for her continuing journey.

“May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may the Lord always hold you in the palm of His hand.”

As we thank Dr. Eileen Kilbride we also thank three women who have taught at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton since its beginning and for many years previously at St. Barnabas School and they are Sister Alice Edward, Mrs. Alice Strein and Ms. Ann Drake. Each of these women shared their lives and gifts with our parish children and so many more. As they enter into retirement we ask that the Lord of Love reward them with many years of health and happiness.

While St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School will certainly miss the gifts of Dr. Eileen Kilbride, Sister Alice Edward, Mrs. Alice Strein and Ms. Ann Drake we cannot be anything but grateful for the many years of their lives that they have shared with us.

May the Lord bless them all.

God Love You,
-Father Peter
