Ordination Anniversaries
Let us as a parish remember the ordained ministers of our parish community as they celebrate the anniversaries of their ordinations.
Father Edward Muhs - 53 years on June 9th
Msgr. Charles Guarino - 37 years on May 27th
Father Anthony Iaconis - 7 years on June 4th
Deacon Thomas Coleman - 15 years on May 13th
Deacon Bernie Sherlock - 24 years on May 31st
In this time of crisis for the priesthood, the prayers of all are most appreciated. So many of you have mentioned that your support and prayer are with us; know that we deeply appreciate your kindness.
Second Collection
The second collection this week is for the Religious Retirement Fund. Religious Communities of sisters and brothers who have been involved in educational, health care and social ministry in our diocese and also in Brooklyn need our help. Your generosity is most appreciated and will assist the elderly religious of thirty-one communities who still serve us.
There will be a second collection next week to support the cost of the roof replacement.
Corpus Christi Procession
Sunday, June 13th, 9:00 AM Mass
We invite all of our new First Holy Communicants to join in our Corpus Christi Procession. We ask that they come to Church in their First Communion attire at 8:45 AM so that we have time to line them up for the procession. The children will process in with the priest and sit as a group in the front pews of the Church - assemble around the altar during the Eucharistic Prayer and receive a special blessing from our community. This will be yet another wonderful First Communion memory for these children. For further information or to register your child for this procession, please call Rosemary Pettei at 785-0130.

This past week, the company began work on the masonry. This part of the work includes the re-pointing of bricks and the re-caulking of windows. We are awaiting the arrival of the slates for the roof itself and the bricks that will replace any that are broken. And so the work goes on.

A Letter from the Pastor - June 6, 2004
My dear friends,
During the next several months, the parish will be undertaking a rather mammoth task, the registration of all the parish volunteers. The moderators of the various activities will be in contact with their volunteers over the next three months to accomplish this task. This program, initiated by the Diocese has as its goal providing a safe environment for all who share in parish life.
The Bishops of the United States have mandated that every possible effort for the protection of God’s people be employed. Clearly, this is an important undertaking, requiring sensitivity and mutual trust. The processes and the procedures we will be describing and implementing in the months ahead are necessary given our history both in our secular world and in our Church.
Anyone familiar with volunteering outside of their Church commitments are more than likely very familiar with the various documents that volunteers are asked to complete when they begin any service. Employees of companies frequently are required to complete similar forms to those described below when applying for a job.
In an effort to provide a safe environment for all God’s people all volunteers in this parish and throughout the Diocese are asked to complete the following documents in order to serve among our people:
Application for Volunteer Service: This four page document records your history as a volunteer both within and outside the parish.
Volunteer Code of Conduct for Service to the Parish Community: By signing this, a volunteer promises to abide by all the regulations of the parish with regard to volunteer activity.
Release Statement: Signing the Release Statement gives the pastor permission to do a “criminal background search” through a company established for this purpose and hired by the Diocese. The company name is “United States Investigative Services” or USIS for short. Each volunteer will be asked to place their Social Security Number on this form as it is through a person’s social security number that the search is accomplished. Needless to say these release forms will be kept confidential. Their confidentiality and security will be assured by the pastor. Should any criminal activity surface through the criminal background check, the pastor will meet with the volunteer and together they will determine whether the offense affects their participation in parish activities as volunteers. Only the pastor will be aware of any criminal background surfacing.
Other Diocesan Forms: Those working with children or senior citizens need two letters of recommendation from friends and those who drive either of the above are required to complete a form listing their driver’s license and insurance information. Most volunteers who currently work with children or senior citizens have completed these forms. New volunteers will be asked to do so.
During the past several weeks, all the employees of the parish (including priests, deacons and religious) have signed Release Statements allowing the pastor to seek criminal background checks. New Employee Records have also been designed, similar to the Application for Volunteer Service which gives the pastor a uniform record of employment for each parish employee.
The members of the parish’s Pastoral Council and the Finance Council have also completed all the forms required of volunteers so that any questions concerning these forms might be worked out prior to sharing them with the many volunteers in our parish.
Every employee of the parish and every volunteer must complete these forms or forfeit their participation in any service to the parish.
We anticipate the cooperation of all parishioners since providing a safe environment for our parishioners is certainly a priority for each and every one of us.
Meetings of the various parish organizations will take place in the coming weeks so that these forms might be completed. Questions may arise in your minds and hopefully we will answer them when you share in one of the meetings. Volunteers involved in multiple activities need attend only one meeting. Once the paperwork is completed it will cover your involvement in all parish activities.
Thank you for your kindness in serving the parish and for your cooperation in the completion of these forms.
God Love You,
-Father Peter
