Congratulations
Congratulations to Dr. George Ruggi, one of our parishioners, who was named “Citizen of the Year” for his work at Ground Zero and for all he does with the communities in which he lives and works. The award was presented by the Nassau County Chapter of Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society. Dr. Ruggi’s work at Ground Zero was extraordinary and he continues to serve so many in our community. Dr. Ruggi is a member of the Saint Barnabas Choir.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School
Just ten days ago the children of the school were blessed with a bright sunny day for their “Field Day” at Wantagh Park. Thankfully God blessed them with good weather since for several years now they have shared in a gymnasium field day rather than the fields of sunny Wantagh Park. Watching them interact and play speaks volumes about their love for one another and their school. To find out more about our school contact the principal, Ms. Leeann Graziose at 785-5709.

Dear Father Peter and all the Great People of St. Barnabas Parish:

Peace and greetings from the South Pacific Solomon Islands!

Thank you very, very much for sharing your Lenten Outreach Tithing Offering with the Diocese of Auki!

About this time last year, I was home for Confirmations on Long Island and it was wonderful to visit your parish. I appreciate greatly your sincere prayers and interest in the missions.

June 5 , 2005

My dear friends,

This past Tuesday we celebrated a milestone in the parish for Deacon Bernie - he was ordained as a deacon twenty-five years ago on this day. Actually he was among the earliest permanent deacons in the diocese since the program itself is only twenty-six years in existence. Deacon Bernie’s diaconal service has taken on many faces in these twenty-five years. As a deacon, he assists at the Eucharist, preaching God’s Word at some of the celebrations. One of his special joys is presiding at the baptisms of our children. He often mentions that he feels older when he sees some of the babies he baptized being confirmed. His diaconal service calls him to lead the prayers at wake services for our deceased parishioners and gather the mourners in prayer at the burial. During the past years he has served as the Director of Religious Education for the parish. Actually after a year in what he called retirement, he wanted to be more engaged in the parish and came back to serve once again as the Director of Religious Education which is no easy task given the number of children in our program and the number of catechists we seek as volunteers. Generations of children and scores of catechists have enjoyed his leadership in our program. Actually Deacon Bernie also served as the parish’s business manager for a while.

Today we join together in hearty congratulations as we thank him for these years of service. May the Lord continue to bless him and his ministry among us. As we thank Deacon Bernie, we also thank his wonderful wife Rosemary as well as his children for sharing their husband and father with us over these years.

Deacon Bernie – God Bless and Keep You in His Love!!!

God Love You

-Father Peter
