Valentine’s Celebration
With the feast of St. Valentine on Monday this year, we have decided to celebrate it with the Eucharist on Saturday morning, February 12th at 9:45 AM. At this mass we will offer couples the opportunity to renew their marriage vows and witness the renewal of vows of one parish couple who are 50 years married on that day. Join us and celebrate the gift of your love and the holiness of your sacrament. Hospitality will follow this mass.

A Pastor’s Plea
Last weekend’s “snow out” also meant the loss of a collection. Believe it or not with only about 650 people coming to Church the collection was $5,194 along with $1,122 for the second collection which was for the support of the regional school. Snow out’s almost mean lots of money is being spent to remove it. If you could see your way clear to put last week’s envelopes in next week’s collection (along with next week’s) or if you put cash in the basket, to double your offering, it would be a wonderful help. We are in the “black” but the loss of a weekend’s collection puts us dangerously close to a problem. Thanks for your understanding. You’re the best.
We Want Your Blood
Our Annual Lenten Blood Drive will be held in the school cafeteria on the First Sunday of Lent, February 13th, from 8:15 AM to 1:30 PM. There is a critical shortage of blood right now, so we are hoping that, in the spirit of Lenten giving, many will take a few minutes to donate. As a donor, you must be at least 17 years old, 110 pounds, and in generally good health. If you are able to help, fill out a pledge card in the back of the Church or in the rectory, or call Margaret Pariseau at Outreach (785-6243) with your name and phone number by Friday, February 4th, so we have enough time to schedule all the appointments. We are shooting for a record 150 donors this year, and you can put us over the top. Please help...it’ll be a lifesaver!
Charismatic Renewal Center
The Diocesan Office of Charismatic Renewal will sponsor a Healing Mass on Monday, February 7th, in the Holy Family Chapel at 7:30 PM. The celebrant will be Father Anthony (Toni) Mario Ozele. Father Anthony resides in the Brooklyn Diocese while attending Fordham University. He is ministering at International Conferences, Parish Lenten retreats as well as celebrating Healing Masses in the Brooklyn and Rockville Centre dioceses. Everyone will have the opportunity to be prayed with.
Operation Rice Bowl
Working together as a faith community, our parish will again participate in Operation Rice Bowl this Lent. “Rice Bowl”, a Lenten program of Catholic Relief Services, coordinated by our Social Justice Committee, gives the parish a unique opportunity to pray, fast, learn and share, as we are called to do, during the Lenten Season. By participating, we come to recognize, be one with, and respond to others who need us in the wider global community. Our offering to Operation Rice Bowl supports Catholic Relief Services as it works to alleviate human suffering in more than 87 countries. When Lent ends, a collection will be taken for your rice bowl donations and forwarded to Catholic Relief Services. Look for more information on Operation Rice Bowl as Lent continues. Thanks for anything you might do to help.

The Sower, The Seed and the Soil - The Message of the New Testament
Monday, February 7th, 7:30 PM, Upper Church
Rev. Patrick Griffin, CM, Professor of Sacred Scripture
Seminary of the Immaculate Conception
The familiar parable of the Sower reminds each Christian of the importance of planting the seed of God’s Word in the soil of one’s life. The New Testament is the Word of God, specially addressed to the Christian bearer. We will take a look at the basic elements of the New Testament and the types of seeds it offers for bearing fruit.
What’s Up, Up There?
While the roof is 99% finished, weather has prevented the final 1% of items on the “punch list.” But we can basically consider it complete. Thanks for your generosity in making this possible, for your patience with the process and for your continued support of what we do to make the parish a special home for all of us. This will be our last edition of “What’s Up, Up There?” Amen!

Christian Ministries Appeal
In speaking on the Christian Ministries Appeal this weekend, I did so with the sincere hope that those who are able to support this program would please do so. There are so many wonderful people touched through the resources of the Appeal and every sacrifice we make affects their lives. Our diocese provides many essential services to the people of this parish through Catholic Charities, through the education programs offered, through the training of deacons and priests and through the formation programs offered to our laity. Without your support, the parish will sacrifice a great deal.
As I mentioned over the weekend, should we reach our goal the parish will receive a portion of the resources from the Appeal. This past year we received $8,342. In previous years I mentioned that should you not want to support the Appeal directly you can write a separate check earmarked as a parish donation in lieu of the Appeal and send it to my attention. Together we have supported our parish in the past and together we will continue to create a vibrant faith-filled community of support and love into the 21st century.
Thank You -- Father Peter

Feast of St. Blaise
Little is known of St. Blaise. He is believed to have healed a boy who was choking. Hence, Christians for centuries have asked God to protect them from disease of the throat through Blaise’s intercession. On Thursday, February 3rd, individual blessings will take place following the 6:30 AM and the 9:00 AM Masses. A special blessing of throats was extended to the entire congregation at the weekend masses. Those wishing individual blessings are invited to join us at the masses on Thursday.
Palm for the Burning
Each year as you know we gather the palm distributed last year and burn it to make the ashes for Ash Wednesday. Please bring your palm next weekend and place it in the basket at the front of the Church, next to the Baptismal.
Altar Flowers
The flowers on the Main Altar are in loving memory of Thomas Gilchrist on his birthday from the Gilchrist Family.
The flowers on the Blessed Mother’s Altar are in thanksgiving.
Food Pantry Weekend
February 5th & 6th
This month, we are most in need of pasta sauce, ketchup, coffee (including de-caf), tea, rice, fruit juice, pancake syrup, cereal, soap, toothpaste, dish soap, laundry detergent, and all paper goods, but all donations are gratefully accepted. Please leave your pantry donations on the lobby benches in church next weekend. We are also happy to accept them at the rectory during the week. The Ten-Minute Club also meets on Pantry Sunday. We’ll need you to take this month’s food donations over to the rectory basement. Please meet our Saint Vincent de Paul Society members in the church lobby after Mass. Your generous support of our Pantry, as always, is deeply appreciated. Thank you so much.
Mailing Committee
On Wednesday, February 2nd, please meet in the Holy Family Chapel following the 9:00 AM Mass.
Where’s St. Barnabas?
As you can see St. Joseph has enjoyed his makeover. St. Barnabas left us for the makeover department last Thursday and will return in a few weeks. Mary will follow when St. Barnabas returns. Hope you like their new looks.
Year End Contribution Statements
Anyone wishing to receive a contribution statement for the year 2004 are asked to call the rectory office. The statements will then be sent out in February.
