Join Pat as she explores this and other questions concerning the spiritual, psychological and intellectual development of children and some practical ways in which parents can nurture their children’s relationship to God and the Church.

Second Collection
The second collection today is for the support of The Long Island Catholic.

What’s Up, Up There?
As usual the last 5% of the project takes the most time. As you have noticed, half of the scaffolding is down. The job of removing the bolts that held the scaffolding in place on the north side of the Church continues. The poor weather hasn’t helped the effort. A planter still needs to be constructed around the cross on the south side of the Church. There are a few odds and ends that need addressing but the project of re-roofing the Church is almost complete.

Tsunami Relief
Once again your generosity deserves praise. Last weekend the collection for tsunami relief was $17,782. Thank you so very much. The need is most obvious and the hearts of American people always seem to reach out in care to those most in need. It is a wonderful commentary on who we are. We will once again this weekend have a collection and forward all these funds to the Catholic Relief Services. Please make out all checks to St. Barnabas.Again Thank You!

St. Barnabas Web Site
Have you seen it? Its back and better than ever. The St. Barnabas web site is up and running again thanks to Steve and Jennifer Castro, parishioners of St. Barnabas. Visit the site at Stbarnabasny.org and see the bulletin, information about sacraments, parish events and a lot more.

Please Pray for the Repose of the Souls of the Recently Deceased

Where’s St. Joseph
With the current trend for makeovers…..our statue of St. Joseph is off to the carpenter’s for a makeover. As part of our continued attention to our Church, St. Joseph will be refurbished and returned to his place of honor in the lobby of the Church. He should return in about two weeks, at which time St. Barnabas will leave us and then the statue of Mary. I am sure they will reverence our Church for many years to come with this much needed refurbishment.

Congratulation to Fr. Lawrence

Psalm 122
I rejoiced when I heard them announce,
“The time of warfare is past.
No more will brother hate brother
or violence have its way.
No more will they drown out God’s silence and shut their hearts to his song”.

Pray for peace in the cities
and harmony among the races.
May peace come to live on our streets and justice within our walls.
With all my heart I will pray
that peace comes to live among us.
For the sake of all earth’s people,
I will do my utmost for peace.

January 9, 2005

My dear friends,

During this past week we celebrated the feast of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. John Neumann, two people who were most instrumental in the foundation of the Catholic School system in the United States. If you wander through the biographies of these two extraordinary people you will find their personal energy incredible. Both people accomplished an unbelievable amount in their short lives (both died before their 50th birthday). We can credit each of them with the founding of a religious community of Sisters, the opening of numerous Catholic Schools and the establishment of endless programs for the poor and needy. Personally I am practically exhausted just reading their biographies and the listing of their accomplishments.

Annually we celebrate Catholic Schools Week throughout the United States and as a parish we support and share in the life of our own school – St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School. January 30th marks the beginning of Catholic Schools Week and Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton will sponsor an Open House both here at the Bellmore campus and also at the Early Childhood Center located on the property of Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Parish in Wantagh. Details on these Open House programs will be in upcoming bulletins.

Today I want to encourage those with school age children to consider offering the gift of a Catholic Education to their child/children. Tour our facility, meet with teachers and students and come to know what a wonderful experience awaits your children. There is an enthusiasm in the air that is contagious and our best advertisement is our young people themselves. Their happiness, their enjoyment of learning, their interest in their faith provides us all with a reason for supporting this wonderful school.

If you have questions about the school, please don’t hesitate to contact the principal, Ms. Leeann Graziose or myself. Together let us rejoice in the gift of Catholic Education.

God Love You

-Father Peter
