For example, one provision … violates Hyde’s second sentence (against funding health plans that cover abortions) - and then violates the spirit of the entire amendment, by directly forcing conscientiously opposed citizens in many plans to fund other people’s abortions through their health premiums (sec.1303). Another provision … allows funds to be used for abortions or not, depending on a decision by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (sec. 1101). Yet another provision … allows its new funding for community health centers to be governed by the underlying mandates in the authorizing legislation for these centers - mandates that in other health programs have been interpreted by the federal courts to require federal funding of abortion (Sec. 10503). These disparate policies are not compatible with the Hyde amendment, or even with one another. This is one reason why passage of a bill like H.R. 5939 [“No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act”] is overdue.

~ Cardinal Daniel DiNardo,
Chairman, USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities,
Letter to Congress in Support of H.R. 5939,
August 20, 2010

Widows & Widowers
On Thursday, October 14th at 2:00 PM we will be having lunch at the Oak Chalet. The cost is $20 per person. Send checks to Harriet Leighton, 2405 Warren Ave., North Bellmore, NY 11710 or call 781-1438 by October 7th.

Word of Life
How we care for an unexpected child, a parent suffering from cognitive impairment, or an infant with a disability does not reflect the degree of their humanity, but our own. We are as dependent on them as they are on us. There can be no compromise with the standard Jesus set and continually calls us to: The measure of love is to love without measure. ~ USCCB Respect Life Program Flyer

Catholic High School Open Houses
September
18th	11:00 AM - 1:30 PM	Our Lady of Mercy
19th	10:00 AM - 1:00 PM	St. Anthony’s
19th 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM	St. Dominic’s
25th	10:00 AM - 1:00 PM	McGann-Mercy
26th	12:00 PM - 2:30 PM	Holy Trinity
26th 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM	St. Mary’s
October
2nd 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM	Sacred Heart Academy
2nd	10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Kellenberg Memorial
2nd 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Chaminade
11th 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Regis
17th	10:30 AM - 2:00 PM	St. John the Baptist

Weekly Financial Reports
8/29/10 Sunday Collection: $ 18,003.50
8/30/09 Sunday Collection: $ 17,158.50

Parish Families Registered 4,871 (Updated: 9/7/10)
# Envelopes Mailed 2,023
# Envelopes Used 687
Catholic Ministries Appeal
Goal Amount: $ 103,315
Total Pledged: 103,681
Total Payments Received: 90,754
Total # of Pledges: 555

Sanctuary Lamp
The Sanctuary Lamp Candle will be lit this week in loving memory of Gary Smith from Cathi & Ted Schulte.

Catholic Daughters of the Americas
The first meeting of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Mother Seton #2413, will be held on Tuesday, September 14th at 7:00 PM beginning with an installation Mass in the Convent Chapel.
